Recording Quality: For a soundboard it's slightly above average. Just because it's the first show of '74 and it's a new era doesn't in-of-itself justify a 5 star rating. These reviews best serve the populace if they only judge the quality of the recording and musical performance, not how important it is in the history of the Dead. Someone said something about shows from 76, as far as having a distinctively fresh and different sound, and I kind of see this show as having a bit of that character. but when they hit their stride, it sounds niiiice and fresh. You can definitely hear that it's a little awkward at moments, like when it comes time to end a song and not everyone realizes it, but to me those moments add to the character of the show and bring the Boys a little closer to earth as we see that they're not magicians, they're rusty after a break just like you or me would be.
